Salem exists to send people into the world to serve in Jesus’ name.

See the sub-pages to see how we do this within the congregation, locally and globally.

When asked what the greatest commandment was Jesus said that we are love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.  Then He said that a second was like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself, thereby forever fusing the two together.  At Salem we believe that we are to love and serve God by loving and serving people.

Jesus commanded that his followers “Love one another”.  The Bible gives us many ways we are to do this.  Most notable are the many “one anothers” of scripture.  They are concrete ways we express love to others.  Here is just a sampling:

Accept one another (Rom. 15:7)

Bear one another’s burdens (Gal. 6:2)

Comfort one another   (1Thess. 4:18)

Encourage one another  (1 Thess. 5:11)
Forgive one another  (Eph. 4:32)
Honor one another  (Rom. 12:10b)
Be Hospitable to one another (1 Pet. 4:9)
Be Kind to one another  (Eph. 4:32)
Pray for one (James 5:16)

Serve one another  (Gal. 5:13)

Another reason we serve is we believe that God has chosen to do His Kingdom work in and through the faithful actions of His set-aside people – the Church.  As Jesus-followers we live out the prayer He taught us, that the Kingdom of God would come “one earth as it is in heaven.”  So we seek to live here and now in this age, as it will be in the age to come.  Through Jesus and His followers the age to come has broken in, albeit in a limited fashion , and continues to manifest itself as we love adn serve God by loving and serving people
